Terms of Use
Better Choices Society provides educational lessons, scenarios, scoring, and practice activities, including a phone game called The Long Game. The materials support learning and discussion. They are not counseling, therapy, legal advice, individualized educational advice, or a promise of school credit.
Students may use the lessons for personal learning and classroom practice. Teachers and parents may use the materials in a classroom, advisory, tutoring, or family setting as long as source links and attribution remain visible. Users may not copy, resell, scrape, or republish the materials as a competing product without written permission.
Audience and Age
This resource is designed for high-school students (roughly ages 14–18), educators, parents, guardians, and other supporting adults. It is intended for people 13 and older. Do not submit an email address or personal information if you are under 13. During the pilot, any student participation is arranged and supervised by an adult (a parent, guardian, or educator); we do not contact students or collect student email addresses.
No Accounts, No Login
You do not create an account or log in to use the lessons or the game. The course stores your progress in your browser's local storage on your own device. The game assigns a randomly generated nickname (for example, "Yeeting Axolotl #42") and a random on-device ID; you are never asked for your real name.
The Game and Your Data
The Long Game keeps your progress (level, streak, cards, XP, and which concept introductions you have seen) on your device. The introduction flag may also be inferred from course completion so the game does not repeat a lesson. To understand how the game is used, it sends a random device-generated ID, your generated nickname, and aggregate game numbers to our own server. This is pseudonymous — it is not your name, and there is no third-party analytics inside the game. Optional "squads" (small friend leaderboards) and push reminders exist in the code but are turned off during the pilot.
You can delete your game data — on the device and on our server — at any time using the game's "Manage or delete my data" control. See the Privacy Policy for the full data inventory, retention, and deletion details.
Acceptable Use
- Use the materials for learning, teaching, and family discussion — not to label, diagnose, pressure, or manipulate real people.
- Do not attempt to attack, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the site or its APIs.
- If squads are ever enabled, squad names must not contain a real student's name or other identifying information, and must not include harassing, hateful, or explicit content.
- Do not submit identifying details about yourself or others in scenario forms. These forms are not emergency or crisis support.
Content and Intellectual Property
The lessons, scenarios, artwork, and code are the property of Better Choices Society unless otherwise credited. Cited external sources remain the property of their respective owners and are linked for reference. You may use the materials for non-commercial educational purposes with attribution and visible source links.
Educational Limits
Scenarios are simplified educational examples, not real cases. The intended skill is better judgment: noticing incentives, checking information, protecting trust, and making repair possible. Nothing here is a substitute for professional advice. If a situation involves safety, self-harm, harassment, abuse, threats, or illegal activity, contact a trusted adult, school official, emergency service, or appropriate professional support. In the U.S. you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
